The Turkish swimmer tried a new world record at Çanakkale on August 1st 2010, but was not able to bring it to 85 meters due to an ear problem. The World Record in Constant Weight is 80 M and belongs to DEVRİM ULUSOY. Cenk Devrim Ulusoy, now 35, is Turkey’s male world diving record holder. He is no newcomer to water sports in general; by the time he was 18 he had over 600 swimming medals under his belt and since he started diving five years ago he has consistently broken Turkish, European and world diving records. He competes with the ÖDTU Sports Club. “Diving to 10 meters isn’t as simple as it appears ... The challenge is to maintain control, otherwise you could blackout or worse,” he explained. Cenk Devrim Ulusoy set a free diving world record in the Dynamic Apnea category at the Turkish Championship in Ankara on May 8. Dynamic Apnea consists of swimming underwater without rising to the surface to breathe. Competitors may use flippers and masks if they wish. With a single breath, Ulusoy swam 164.30 m, easily outstripping the previous 154.20 world record held by France’s Stephan Mifsud. The Turkish Underwater Sports Federation will submit the new record to the World Underwater Activities Confederation (CMAS) for ratification. TURKIYEINTERNETTE.COM
