BOOK PRINTING IN TURKEY UP 15 PERCENT IN 2010

The number of books which were printed in Turkey increased 15 percent in 2010 when compared to 2009. It reached 408.3 million, stated Turkey Publishers' Union on Friday.

The number of books which were printed in Turkey increased 15 percent in 2010 when compared to 2009. It reached 408.3 million, stated Turkey Publishers' Union on Friday.

A total of 34,363 different types of books were printed, and 214.4 million labels were bought for these books in 2010.

Meanwhile, the number of books, which were distributed by National Education Ministry to primary and secondary school students for free, reached 193.9 million last year.

According to recent census, Turkey's population is 72.5 million, thus, the number of books per capita can be calculated as 5.6.

The type of published books increased 9.38 percent and the number of published books rose 15.48 percent in 2010 when compared to 2009.
