Global “Performance Entertainment” heroes of the world and the second best phenomenon after the Beatles - as many people believe - are coming to Istanbul to fascinate Turks over a series of 10 shows at ABDI IPEKÇI Hall right next to world famous the ancient Byzantian City Walls of the city.
CIRQUE DU SOLEIL (Circus of the Sun) which is a “hard to believe” story on its own, was created in 1984 by two former street performers, Guy Laliberte and Daniel Gauthier.
The group which puts on stage a fascinating combination of modern dance and acrobatics, has reached millions of viewers on five continents in a number of major performance halls and at a number of events, to include the Academy Awards.
The group which have been traveling the world for 30 years, is a legendary company with unique music, dances and stage shows. They have an extraordinary performance “challenging gravity”.
Quebec’s world-famous performance entertainment company is scheduled to perform 'Saltimbanco in Istanbul, which is regarded as their most famous and longest running productions. The show presents 50 high-caliber artists from 20 different countries and introduces breathtaking acrobatics.
The event is organized by Pozitif under the main sponsorship of Akbank and the legendary Canadian group will be on stage at Istanbul’s Abdi İpekçi Arena between Feb. 19 and March 4 for 10 shows.
SALTIMBANCO to be performed by the group in Istanbul is one of their most famous and longest-running shows. It is a unique show narrating “the urban experience in all its forms. Saltimbanco, literary means “a jump on a bench” in Italian and it includes acrobatics and theatrical performance in a visually glorious way.
In fact, Cirque Du Soleil creator Guy Laliberte defines Saltimbanco as “the celebration of life itself.” The show has eight creative forces, namely acrobatic performances, acting, art forms from around the world, the imaginary world, dance, daring, dexterity and grace.
With a cast of 50 high-caliber artists hailing from 20 different countries, Saltimbanco features breathtaking acrobatics and unbelievable athleticism during solo spotlights and epic ensembles. Technical expertise and extravagant design are woven together by uplifting, spectacular costumes, amazing lighting, humor and enchanting music and magic.
Ticket prices for the show range between 50 and 150 Turkish Liras while there is a 20 percent reduction for the first 1,000 tickets bought with an Akbank credit card. Tickets are available at Biletix.

Its theatrical, character-driven approach and the absence of performing animals helped define Cirque du Soleil as the contemporary circus that it remains today.
Each show is a synthesis of circus styles from around the world, with its own central theme and storyline. The company draws the audience into the performance through continuous live music, with performers rather than stagehands changing the props.
The circus expanded rapidly through the 1990s and 2000s, going from one show to 19 shows in over 271 cities on every continent except Africa and Antarctica. The shows employ approximately 4,000 people from over 40 countries.
