CAPPADOCIA AT GERMAN TOURISM SHOW
The secretary-general of the Cappadocia Tourism Facilities Association, said the Central Anatolian province of Nevsehir and the Cappadocia region would open a stand at the 45th ITB Berlin Tourism Fair to take place between March 8 and 13.
Turkey will promote its Cappadocia region during the ITB International Tourism Bourse in Berlin in March, a local tourism association said Sunday. Nazif Demir, the secretary-general of the Cappadocia Tourism Facilities Association, said the Central Anatolian province of Nevsehir and the Cappadocia region would open a stand at the 45th ITB Berlin Tourism Fair to take place between March 8 and 13. "Around 150 countries will attend the fair," Demir told Anatolia news agency. With more than 180,000 visitors, which include 108,000 trade visitors, as well as over 10,000 exhibitors from 180 countries, ITB Berlin is the leading B2B-Platform in the tourism industry. Cappadocia covers a region that encompasses parts of the Central Anatolian provinces of Aksaray, Nevşehir, Niğde, Kayseri and Kırşehir. Volcanic eruptions occurred in Erciyes, Hasandağ and Güllüdağ in the upper Myosen period. As a result, a large table land was formed from the volcanic tufas, which were then whittled down further by the Kızılırmak River over thousands of years, ultimately resulting in the distinctive chimney rocks (Fairy Chimneys) of the area. Cappadocia was one of the most important locations for the early Christians, who settled in the area because the region’s natural topography afforded them the ability to hide from Roman soldiers bent on persecuting them. The region became a significant early center for the religion, which soon spread throughout Anatolia. SOURCE: HURRIYETDAILYNEWS.COM February 20, 2011
