CUMHURIYET NO VISA TO 12 CANDIDATES Supreme Board of Election (YSK) decided that 12 independent candidates, 7 of them were supported by Peace & Democracy Party (BDP) could not enter elections because of their former convictions. YSK also vetoed whole candidate list of Freedom & Democracy Party (ODP) was "military service document is lacking". Officials said this condition was not asked in previous elections. The officials said, "they told us to bring them only one hour ago and they did not take it afterward. The election is illegal." KNIFE ATTACK TO BAYKAM Assailant Mehmet Celikel stabbed painter Bedri Baykam and his assistant Tuba Kurtulmus, who got out of a meeting to protest the demolition of "Monument of Humanity" in the eastern province of Kars. Baykam and Kurtulmus had an operation and were reported to be in serious health condition. Celikel, who run after the incident, surrendered to police in the evening. Celikel said, "he insulted me, I stabbed him because of this."
HURRIYET YSK VETO LIKE BOMB The decision of the Higher Election Board (YSK) to cancel candidacies of 12 people who have run for the general elections independently, has destabilized electoral balance in the Southeastern Anatolia Region. Seven of the 12 independent candidates were supported by the Peace & Democracy Party (BDP). These seven people were Leyla Zana, Hatip Dicle, Gultan Kisanak, Sabahat Tuncel, Ertugrul Kurkcu, Isa Gurbuz and Salih Yildiz. The candidacies of these 12 independent applicants were cancelled as they could not be elected lawmakers even if they are pardoned for committing terror crimes against the state under the Article 76 of the Constitution. HE STABBED, HE TELEPHONED Painter Bedri Baykam, who got out of a meeting to protest the demolition of "Monument of Humanity" in the eastern province of Kars, and his assistant were stabbed. Assailant Mehmet Celikel stabbed Baykam and his assistant, and then he telephoned his friend and informed him about his attack. 35-year-old Mehmet Celikel attended the meeting in Akatlar, Istanbul, He shouted as "Mr. Bedri" at the end of the meeting and said he wanted to speak to Bedri Baykam. However, Baykam's assistant Tugba Kurtulmus said, "we don't have any time." Then, Celikel first stabbed Kurtulmus and then Baykam in his right side of abdominal cavity.
MILLIYET VETO QUAKE Turkey's Supreme Board of Election (YSK) cancelled the candidacy of 12 independent applicants who would enter the elections with the support of Peace & Democracy Party (BDP) as they were formerly convicted. BDP is expected to give support to some other candidates. After an examination of judicial records, the board ruled that 12 independent candidates, including Hatip Dicle, Leyla Zana, Sebahat Tuncel and Gultan Kisanak, had previous convictions which prevented them from being elected deputies. THERE IS NO MORE KURDISH PROBLEM Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said only they could collapse the policies smelling exploitation in the Southeast. Erdogan said, "there is no more Kurdish problem in this country. There is the matter of my Kurdish brothers. There is the exploitation of my Kurdish brothers. But they will not be deceived by those tricks and they will spoil the game.
RADIKAL BAN The Higher Election Board (YSK) made a disputable decision that can harm all political balances. The board closed the path of 12 independent applicants, including seven members of the Peace & Democracy Party (BDP), towards the parliament. ERGUN OZEN, NEW BOSS OF BANKS Garanti Bankasi's director general Ergun Ozen will become the new chairman of the Banks Association of Turkey. The previous chairman was Is Bankasi's former director general Ersin Ozince.
VATAN HUMANITY HAS DIED Painter Bedri Baykam, who was stabbed in Istanbul, asked for help from the vehicles passing by as he shouted, "I am dying, take me to hospital." However, none of the vehicles stopped to take him to hospital. Baykam and his assistant Tugba Kurtulmus were intercepted by an assailant when they were leaving a meeting to protest demolition of "Monument of Humanity." The assailant first stabbed Kurtulmus and then Baykam in their abdominal cavity and ran away. After the attack, none of the vehicles passing by stopped. Moreover, a vehicle which was parked in the street closed its doors and the driver quickly got away from the spot of the incident. A taxi took Baykam to hospital. WE WILL NOT JOIN ELECTIONS The Higher Election Board (YSK) vetoed candidacies of seven independent applicants, including Leyla Zana and Ertugrul Kurkcu. The Peace & Democracy Party (BDP) said, "this is a horror operation. We will discuss whether or not to join elections under these circumstances." The YSK said 12 applicants were not eligible to be elected as lawmakers, and cancelled their candidacies. The list also includes Sabahat Tuncel and Gultan Kisanak, who are actually MPs. YSK said, "Tuncel's criminal record was notified after she was elected as lawmaker in previous elections. It has been revealed that Kisanak had a criminal record with her maiden name." Serafettin Elci and Hatip Dicle cannot join the elections either.
SABAH CONTACT OFFICE OF ERGENEKON Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who addressed a meeting of Justice & Development (AK) Party candidates in Ankara, criticized the opposition. "They could not find a candidate from outside and they transferred a candidate from Silivri Prison. They decided to open contact office of Ergenekon under their own party," he said. Selahattin Demirtas said, "we will not join an election that is not democratic".
TURKIYE UNCONDITIONAL YES TO TURKEY Khaled Mashall, head of the Hamas' political bureau in Damascus, replied to questions of Turkiye daily newspaper. He is away from his homeland for 36 years. He is the leader of Hamas in exile. He said he thought of visiting Turkey for Necmettin Erbakan's funeral, however he had changed his mind as Turkey might face problems due to that visit. Mashall said, "we are ready to accept any proposal of Turkey that can unite groups in Palestine without laying down any preconditions." Mashall, who had met Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu recently, said Turkey's views were important for Palestine. Mashall said, "Ankara wants Hamas, Fatah and Islamic Jihad to be a whole. We are saying yes to Turkey in advance in order to be together with our brothers." KNOCK DOWN ON EVERY DOOR Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed candidate lawmakers. Erdogan said, "I want to feel the dust and sweat of Anatolia. Shake every hand." Erdogan advised the candidates to be constructive. He said, "do not clean your hands with wet wipes after shaking hands as some people do. Shake callous hands as well."
YENI SAFAK THEY OPENED CONTACT OFFICE TO ERGENEKON Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended acquaintance meeting of candidates of Justice & Development (AK) Party in Ankara. Erdogan addressed Republican People's Party (CHP) and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) who were getting ready to bring suspects of Ergenekon and Balyoz cases to parliament. "Are you reflecting the will of the nation or the will of Silivri? Are you getting your strength from the nation or from the gangs?" STATE REGULATES, BANKS ABIDE BY State Minister Ali Babacan said he would form the monetary policy to ensure price stability of the Central Bank. Babacan said, "we do not have arguments with the banks. State makes regulations and banks abide by this. Sanctions will be imposed on those that do not abide by."

Baykam shouted and called for help for a long time in the streets. He was hospitalized by a taxi. Officials said those wounded were not in serious condition. Assailant Mehmet C. was caught in Bayrampasa district in the evening hours.
