CUMHURIYET SYRIA WARNS TURKEY OVER "ATTITUDE" Syria on Wednesday said that they wanted to continue good relations with Turkey. However, said Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Mualem, Turkey must review its attitude and stance on the developments taking place in Syria. "We will not permit foreign powers to interfere in the domestic affairs of Syria. We do not want to eradicate our special relations that were formed after efforts of long years," al-Mualem also said. ISTANBULITES TO CELEBRATE OPERA Istanbulites will celebrate opera during the upcoming "Istanbul Opera Festival". The annual Istanbul Opera Festival will take place between July 1 and 21. HURRIYET DICLE GOES, ERONAT COMES Oya Eronat, candidate from the ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party, has become a member of the parliament from the southeastern province of Diyarbakir after independent deputy Hatip Dicle lost his chance because of his conviction. Eronat received her deputyship certificate through her lawyers. She lost her 17-year-old son Eren Sahin in a bomb attack staged by the terrorist organization PKK in Diyarbakir in 2008. MASHAAL IN ISTANBUL, ABBAS IN ANKARA Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal met Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Istanbul. Meanwhile, President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Ankara to hold talks with Turkish authorities. Crisis between the two Palestinian parties was high on agenda of the Davutoglu-Mashaal meeting. TWO MARTYRS IN TUNCELI Two police officers were killed in an explosion in eastern Turkey. The explosion occurred on a village road near Nazimiye town of the eastern province of Tunceli as a police vehicle was passing by. Hakan Yavuz, 30, and Gokhan Buyukaslan, 24, lost their lives in the blast. MILLIYET HERE IS AL-ASAD'S MAIN ENEMY Speaking to Milliyet daily newspaper, Muhammad Riyadh al-Shaqfa, the head in exile of Muslim Brotherhood in Syria, says the regime will give up at the end of this year." Al-Shaqfa said that Syrian leader Bashar al-Asad's father Hafez al-Asad quelled the revolt pioneered by the Muslim Brothers in 1979-1980 in a very bloody way, and Hama city was even demolished that time. Al-Shaqfa said those who were members of the organization or those who even have a minor link with the organization were being executed. HE IS NOT SETTLING THINGS WITH ONLY US Selahattin Demirtas, the former chairman of the Peace & Democracy Party (BDP), spoke to Milliyet daily newspaper regarding the decision to cancel Hatip Dicle's parliament membership. Demirtas said, "the prime minister has not settled things with only us. We will not go to the parliament." Demirtas said, "we will not go to parliament with six deficiencies. We are aware that Hatip Dicle is openly being insulted. Who will make an explanation to Diyarbakir people, who have given 70,000 votes?" Demirtas said, "the stage we will reach at the end of this (process) is PKK's breaking the ceasefire. We are trying not to give harsh messages to prevent such thing. We do not want the ceasefire to be broken, but the further step will be that." RADIKAL EIGHTH WONDER During Marmaray excavations, teams have discovered the greatest sunken boat of the world in Yenikapi, Istanbul. Radikal daily was the sole newspaper taking photographs of the sunken boat which was 15 meters in length and 5 meters in width. The boat, dating to 5th century, is still robust, and it was carrying significant load. THRESHOLD FROM ANKARA TO DICLE The Higher Election Board (YSK) blocked the path of Hatip Dicle, who has crossed the 10 percent electoral threshold as an independent candidate. However, it has been revealed that three political parties were of the same opinion about cancellation of Dicle's parliament membership before YSK made this decision. Haluk Ipek of the Justice & Development (AK) Party submitted an objection petition to YSK immediately after Dicle got his deputyship certificate. Mehmet Yakupoglu of the Republican People's Party (CHP) and Fikri Donmez of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) who were in the board also objected saying that "Dicle could not be a lawmaker under laws." Speaking to Radikal daily, Ipek said, "giving deputyship certificate to Dicle is against laws." VATAN BOYCOTT TENSION The decision of the Supreme Board of Election to cancel Hatip Dicle's parliament membership because of his conviction has escalated tension in Ankara. 35 deputies supported by the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) decided to boycott the decision. There are no certain rules in the Constitution and the parliamentary by-law about the situation. Parliament Speaker's Office can cancel their parliament membership. In that case by-election can be held in three months. AMBUSH Terrorists targeted the police once again. A remote-controlled land-mine went off in the eastern province of Tunceli as a police vehicle was passing by. Hakan Yavuz, 30, and Gokhan Buyukaslan, 24, lost their lives in the blast. Interior Minister Osman Gunes said, "this is the declaration of war. This is nothing but treachery." THY WINS AVIATION OSCAR Turkey's national flag carrier was chosen as Europe's best airline company by the SKYTRAX after a survey with 18.8 million passengers in the world. Turkish Airlines' Director General Temel Kotil said, "We are honored. We are the first Turkish company surpassing Europe." SABAH FEAR IN ALEPPO If the unrest in Syria spreads to Aleppo city, around 300,000 Syrians are expected to flee into Turkey. Ankara is making preparations to establish a buffer zone that is 2 kilometers wide and 15 kilometers long. Turkish Red Crescent Aid Society will erect a tent-site in the Syrian side of the border. TURKISH AIRLINES BEST IN EUROPE Turkey's national air carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) was chosen as the "Best Airlines of Europe" by Skytrax company. Director General of THY, Temel Kotil, received the award from Skytrax president Edward M. Plaisted in Paris. YENI SAFAK SURPRIZING PALESTINE SUMMIT Turkey, which has intervened after peace talks between parties in Palestine has been blocked, separately hosted Fatah's leader Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas' leader Khaled Mashaal. Turkish executives have asked Abbas and Mashaal to exert more efforts to solve the disagreement over who will be the new prime minister of the Palestinian government. TIME FOR CASE LAW REGARDING SILIVRI Courts hearing Ergenekon and Balyoz (Sledgehammer) cases could not make their verdict on Wednesday regarding demands of Mehmet Haberal, Mustafa Balbay and Engin Alan--who have been elected lawmakers. Two court delegations were waiting for each other in order to make a decision over "case law." YSK-BDP CO-PRODUCTION The decision blocking Hatip Dicle's path to parliament has caused tension, whereas the Peace & Democracy Party (BDP) and the Higher Election Board (YSK) just watched an "obvious" crisis when it was occurring. BDP hid a prison term that causes an obstacle before deputyship. The judge who signed the prison verdict did not do what he was obliged to do although he was a member of the YSK. ZAMAN SURPRISE VISITS BY ABBAS AND MASHAAL Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) is focused on the developments in Syria and, at the same time, continues efforts on Palestine. Sources said that Turkey hosted Palestinian leaders the other day. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was in Ankara while Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal was in Istanbul. In a meeting with Mashaal, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that "in this critical stage, national unity must be preserved between the two Palestinian groups". Diplomatic sources said that Mashaal left Istanbul and that no meeting was planned between Mashaal and Abbas. DEAN OF TURKISH SOCCER PASSES AWAY Former coach of Galatasaray Soccer Club and Turkish National Soccer Team, Coskun Ozari, passed away on Wednesday.
