RUSSIAN TOURISTS SPEND LESS MONEY
Russian tourists who visited Antalya in the first half of the year have spent less money on tax-free shopping compared to last year, according to a recent study. Russian tourists who visited Antalya in the first half of the year have spent less money on tax-free shopping compared to last year, according to a recent study. Global Refund’s Turkey Branch, which specializes in tax-free shopping, announced Thursday that the average amount a Russian tourist spends on tax-free shopping has dropped to 726 Turkish Liras from last year’s 820, indicating a 12 percent decline. The decline in the total money spent by Russian tourists is 31 percent, as the number of Russians visiting Turkey has also declined. The two items Russian tourists reduced spending the most on are jewelry and glasses. Those declining items are followed by clothes, sporting goods and perfume. Saudi Arabian tourists are spending the most money, according to the research. An average Saudi Arabian tourist spends 1,029 liras on tax-free shopping. They are followed by Turks living abroad, who average 983 liras, Azerbaijanis with 933 and Turkish Cypriots with 855. According to official figures from the Culture and Tourism Ministry, the number of tourists visiting Antalya between Jan. 1 and July this year is 7 percent less than the same term last year, and has declined to 3,913,858 from 4,213,681.
