TURKEY ARMENIAN IN FOOTBALL DIPLOMACY
Turkish and Armenian national football teams will face each other Wednesday evening in a World Cup qualifier, only days after Turkish and Armenian ministers sealed an accord stipulating normalization of diplomatic relations.

Turkish and Armenian national football teams will face each other Wednesday evening in a World Cup qualifier, only days after Turkish and Armenian ministers sealed an accord stipulating normalization of diplomatic relations.
The match will take place in the northwestern Turkish city of Bursa and will bring a farewell by Turkey’s national football team chief coach Fatih Terim.
The qualifier is considered as a warm-up for restoration of long-standing bitter relations between Turkey and Armenia. Officials have introduced tight security measures to avert provocations and scramble during the match.
Turkey’s President Abdullah Gül went to Yerevan last year to watch a football match between the two sides, realizing the first phase of what has been called soccer diplomacy. Armenian President confirmed his intended visit for the match.
"The Armenian president and the Armenian national team will see what Turkish hospitality is," said Turkey’s Prime Minister Erdoğan.
