TRADE RELATIONS WITH NEIGHBOURS WEAKENED
The global crisis has hit Turkey's export relations with its neighbors, with Turkish exports to neighboring countries declining 7.7 percent overall during the period between January and September. Turkey's exports to its seven neighboring countries constitute 13.5 percent of its total exports.

The global crisis has hit Turkey’s export relations with its neighbors, with Turkish exports to neighboring countries declining 7.7 percent overall during the period between January and September. Turkey’s exports to its seven neighboring countries constitute 13.5 percent of its total exports.
During the first nine months of the year, Turkey made exports worth $9.9 billion to these countries. Its exports to neighbors totaled $10.73 billion during the same period last year, according to calculations conducted based on data obtained from the Turkish Statistical Institute, or TurkStat.
Among Turkey’s seven neighbors, Iraq has the biggest share in its export market, accounting for 5.1 percent of Turkey’s exports to neighboring countries. During the first nine months of the year, Turkey exported nearly $3.76 billion worth of goods to Iraq.
Turkey’s exports to Iran during the same period reached $1.42 billion, while those to Greece – which holds a 1.6 percent share in the aforementioned market – totaled nearly $1.2 billion.
Last year during the same period, Turkey made exports worth $2.67 billion to Iraq, making this year’s total an increase of 40.6 percent. Turkey’s exports to Iran and Greece were worth $2.54 billion and $1.97 billion, respectively, during the first nine months of last year.
Turkey’s exports to Bulgaria were worth $995.2 million, while its exports to Azerbaijan stood at $991.9 million during the first nine months of the year.
The country’s exports to Syria increased by 23.7 percent, reaching $984.2 million, while exports to Georgia during the first nine months of the year totaled $554 million.
