"Istanbul 2010 Chopin Piano Weeks" starts by the recital on Sunday evening, April 11 at Kadiköy Süreyya Opera House, and will go on until Sunday, May 9. Tickets to recitals are available on Biletix.
Frédéric Chopin, one of the greatest pianists and composers of the romantic period in classical music, will be getting a month-long birthday bash in Istanbul starting this weekend when a concert series marking the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth gets under way on Sunday. “Istanbul 2010 Chopin Piano Weeks” realized with Mehmet Mestçi Artisan in cooperation with Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency Music and Opera Directorate.
The recital series will feature 5 Turkish and 4 foreign pianists who will be performing the most beloved works by the Polish composer, not only in Istanbul but also in other European Capitals of Culture.
Turkish pianist Muhiddin Dürrüoğlu will perform the first concert on the lineup. Among headliners of the series will be Polish virtuoso Marek Drewnowski. The series will wrap up on May 9 with a performance by Turkish pianist Emre Elivar. Tickets for the concerts can be purchased at Biletix sales points.
